Coming home…

Image of a room with a large white paned window, shiplap walls and a sofa with blanket in the corner. Above the sofa is a photo with a gray frame and white border of a family holding hands outside on a bridge.

My first summer during college I moved to Kenosha County, Wisconsin to work as a counselor at a camp. Little did I know that several jobs and years later I would be right back “home” where it all began with a photography business. In the in between years I have earned a BFA in Photography and then worked full-time on a cruise ship teaching photography and photo editing to cruise ship guests.

I love creating images. In fact my favorite stuff to capture is details. I am guilty of loving detail shots so much that when I was cruising the world I would forget sometimes to capture the wider scene…honey, your photo of a unique door knocker in Spain is lovely, but what did the town look like? Oops. I’m definitely better at capturing both now!

That’s probably why I love portraiture so much, though. I love getting in close and capturing the details, just like I always did in my travel photos. Newborn images, with all the tiny fingers and eyelashes, lips and grins are so captivating. Children and their wide eyes of curiosity and wonder… Pets with their goofy underbites and tilted heads when they want to know where the squeaky ball sound just came from. I love capturing these moments in time and preserving them forever.
